Are Eye Examinations covered by the Medical Services Plan (MSP) in British Columbia?
The short answer is no. MSP will contribute a portion toward the cost of the examination and extended testing if you meet the criteria laid out by the province. In simplest terms, this includes individuals under 18, over 65, or those with an ocular medical condition.
What is dry eye and how do you treat it?
Dry eye disease is a broad term for ocular surface disease, and there are many different types. A proper diagnosis before treatment is very important. Chronic dry eye can be an ongoing challenge, but it can be effectively managed once you understand what type you have.
Why do some people struggle with progressive lenses?
Often, difficulties with progressive lenses come down to their calibration and setup. Progressive lenses can work extremely well when they are engineered and designed for your unique visual needs, with technologies such as binocular harmonization and prism thinning helping provide comfortable vision.
Do contact lenses work the same as glasses?
No. Contact lenses work differently from glasses and generally require different prescription powers. Because contact lenses sit on the eye within the tear layer, their effective power and performance differ from glasses. Many people use a combination of glasses and contact lenses depending on their needs.
Should I be worried about glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration?
Early detection is especially important with glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Routine monitoring and early treatment when indicated can go a long way toward protecting your vision.
